What should the Packers expect from their rookies for the rest of the season?
If the Packers hope to win the Super Bowl this season, they'll need major contributions from at least some of their rookies.
The Green Bay Packers enter the home stretch of the 2024 regular season. While the NFC North crown appears all but officially out of reach, they still have valid reasons to believe they can make a Super Bowl run in the coming weeks and months.
To meet those goals, the Packers' rookies will need to play significant roles. Not every member of the team's 2024 draft class will have a major role the rest of the way, but several will need to maintain or improve on their performance to date in order to make Green Bay a viable championship contender.
Which rookies look up to the challenge? Which ones can handle limited roles? Which ones will simply go along for the ride?
Low expectations
Travis Glover
Considered a project entering the NFL, Travis Glover has the physical tools to develop into a capable offensive lineman but has not yet proven himself to the coaching staff. He has spent the first 10 games of the season on the inactive list as a healthy scratch, though he has managed to suit up the past three weeks. Still, with only four offensive snaps under his belt, Glover remains far away from contributing.
Ty'Ron Hopper
At the start of the season, linebacker appeared to be the Packers' most glaring hole on defense. Fast forward to the middle of December, and that arguably remains true despite injuries thinning the cornerback room. Quay Walker continues to play virtually every snap when healthy while the rest of the group has rotated around him.
Another constant for the linebackers? The lack of action for Ty'Ron Hopper on defense.
A third-round pick in April, Hopper has essentially redshirted to this point in the year, playing just seven defensive snaps. While another Day 2 rookie linebacker has forced his way into the rotation, Hopper can't seem to get on the field save for special teams. The Packers remain optimistic about his long-term outlook, but Hopper looks unlikely to contribute much this year.
Kalen King
Given the Packers' ongoing issues at corner, it stands to reason that Kalen King would have already made an impact if the coaches believed he could as a rookie. Though Green Bay did elevate King from the practice squad before last week's matchup with the Detroit Lions, he has still yet to see action in a regular-season game.
