Josh Jacobs stands by comments that Packers need veteran wide receiver
In an interview with The Leap and Locked on Packers, Josh Jacobs doubles down on the need for the Packers to add to their receiver room.
The election might be over, but Josh Jacobs did his best politicking in New Orleans on Wednesday. He told anyone with a microphone the Green Bay Packers could use a bona fide No. 1 receiver.
As one might imagine, this led to reasoned and responsible reactions on social media. Dontayvion Wicks responded with laugh-cry emojis and Jayden Reed called out fans for criticizing players in a now-deleted post on X, formerly Twitter.
But in a conversation with The Leap and Locked on Packers on Thursday, Jacobs didn’t shy away from his comments, doubling down on them, and even insisting he didn’t get any blowback from the Packers organization even with Packers public relations in the building promoting the NFL draft.
When asked specifically if the Packers organization told him to tone down the rhetoric, Jacobs laughed and insisted they hadn’t.
“Nah, man. I didn’t get no, nothing. Like I said, man, I still stand by my comments. Like I said, I love the guys that we have. I think that they have a lot of talent and I would never discredit someone’s ability when I see the work they put in each day,” Jacobs said.
“But I still think that we need a guy that’s a veteran in this league to be able to just elevate everyone. Make the room a little better, give nuggets here and there.”
Jacobs seems cognizant that he made waves and may have even caused some hurt feelings in the locker room. But as a leader on the team, he said all he cares about is winning.
“I don’t know how long I have left in this game and I don’t ever take it for granted,” Jacobs said. “So, for me, I’m just trying to be able to say that before it’s all said and done, I got to put one of them rings up, I got to hold the Lombardi up and that’s my only goal and focus.”
There’s also the practical side of needing bodies in the passing game.
“People forget Christian Watson is going to be out until maybe Week 12, Week 13. He’s going to come literally at the end of the season. So there is some production we have to replace.”
