How the NFL views the Packers' top assistants as the 2025 hiring season nears
The NFL hiring cycle will kick into full gear in less than three weeks. How much interest will the Packers' top assistants garner?
In a certain sense, the Green Bay Packers won't have another week in 2024 quite like this one.
Because the Packers don't play until Monday, every part of their schedule has shifted back a day. That means players had Wednesday off and the week's first practice has yet to take place. This also applies to the Saints who could plausibly start one of three quarterbacks and might not have their top running back or receiver available when they take the trip up north to Green Bay.
All of which underscores the difficulty in discussing the upcoming game. A considerable amount of important information usually available by this point in the week remains just out of reach. Accordingly, it makes more sense to wait for the Packers and Saints to go through their "football Wednesday" routine before diving into the granular details of the matchup.
With that in mind, today's edition of The Leap will focus on broader developments that could affect Green Bay in the coming weeks and months. Less than three weeks remain before "Black Monday," the day by which NFL teams looking to make wholesale changes will fire their head coaches and formally begin the process of finding replacements.
Obviously, the 10-4 Packers don't have cause to sever ties with head coach Matt LaFleur. However, after yet another successful season, his top assistants could garner interest from other clubs. LaFleur hasn't seen many of his staffers picked off by other clubs to this point in his Green Bay tenure, but the league will come calling eventually.
Will that time come this hiring cycle? The Leap spoke with contacts around the NFL to gauge the league's interest in the Packers' assistant coaches.
