Perhaps the Green Bay Packers overpowered the heavily favored Detroit Lions by simply harvesting the power of the moon.
For the uninitiated -- also known as those not terminally online -- the Lions had apparently not won a Thanksgiving game since the NFL-AFL merger with Earth's only nature satellite in its "waxing gibbous" phase. This provided fodder for what many assumed would end up a bloodbath in favor of Detroit.
Instead, the Packers dominated throughout. They took the lead minutes into the proceedings and never relinquished it, even surviving a response touchdown from the Lions minutes after pulling ahead. The 20 points Green Bay scored in the opening quarter exceeded the team's highest total in any first half this season and matched or surpassed the full-game totals of seven other contests.
With the upset, the Packers have now claimed victories in three of their last four games, an impressive rebound from a month-long win drought. They also suddenly find themselves meaningfully in the NFC playoff race, an idea that seemed ludicrous less than a month ago.
Behold your new god, the moon?
While this line of thinking probably appeals to a certain former Green Bay quarterback, the Packers can point to a few more likely explanations for their sudden and impressive Thanksgiving performance.
