2024 NFL Scouting Combine: Which draft prospects can test onto Packers' radar
The Packers care about more than the NFL Scouting Combine, but few draft prospects end up in Green Bay without strong athletic testing.
When it comes to scouting college prospects, the Green Bay Packers do care about what a player's tape and production say. They also care about a prospect's coaches and teammates think about his character and work ethic. All of these factors weigh into the final grade and, ultimately, whether a particular player ends up on the team's draft board.
And while all that holds true, Green Bay also cares deeply about a prospect's athletic profile. Possessing a great football IQ and instincts often proves insufficient on their own. To make it in the NFL, a player must typically also reach certain physical standards for his position. Passing on coveted yet limited prospects in the draft might infuriate some fans, but the Packers have missed more frequently when they deviate from their athletic thresholds. For every Budda Baker or Shaquille Leonard overlooked, the team has many more misfires like Carl Bradford, Amari Rodgers, and Jace Sternberger.
Accordingly, the NFL Scouting Combine will make or break a lot of prospects in the eyes of the Packers. With workouts set to begin this week, The Leap has highlighted prospects at key positions with a lot at stake from Green Bay's perspective.
